Pablo Kuntz is the owner of Marchforth International Ltd., the company behind Japan's newest character sensation, the Daruma Kids.
The following is a short background of the creative development of the Daruma Kids:
Marchforth International Ltd., a creative brand management company in Tokyo focused on helping Japanese firms internationalize their business primarily through the power of the web and print media. To date, Marchforth is proud to have serviced many leading Japanese firms such as Nissan Motors, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Pasona Inc.
In the summer of 2006, Marchforth launched it’s first brand called (
Unique Japan). Unique Japan (or ‘UJ’ as it is commonly known) offers a superb range of traditionally crafted products from all over Japan to western audiences. Popular items include handcrafted kitchen knives from Takefu in the Fukui prefecture and handmade pottery from Iga city. With domestic demand falling for traditionally made goods, UJ has been instrumental in helping to raise international awareness for Japanese craftsmanship and culture.
Unique Japan's motto is "Where modern life meets tradition.™"
Marchforth's second brand launch came on March 1st, 2009 by way of
We Love Daruma. We Love Daruma is an inspirational brand derived from the Japanese traditional Daruma doll that encourages goal setting to achieve personal aspirations. Pablo has been a passionate fan of the Daruma doll for more than 15 years, during which time has presented them as gifts to family and friends.
The brand's registered trademark is a heart placed on the back of the Daruma. This is to symbolize goodwill to society, as a portion of each traditional Daruma doll sold goes to the
Children's HeartLink. Marchforth received a great amount of press coverage from newspapers and websites around Japan regarding this interesting modern-day development on the Daruma doll.
Inspired by the traditional Daruma doll and his own energetic daughter, Pablo and the team at Marchforth developed its own character brand called the
Daruma Kids. The Daruma Kids are five colourful and energetic friends (Blaze, Carly, Rich, Ollie and Dharma) that champion principles such as goal-setting, learning, perseverance, and charity. A portion of Daruma Kids merchandise sold will benefit the
Children's Make-A-Wish® Foundation.
Based on the overwhelming interest in the Daruma Kids, Marchforth has plans to further develop this brand into both Japanese and foreign markets.
